Successfully Performs Percutaneous Choledochoscopic Biliary Exploration

The Interventional Department of a hospital in Hunan recently successfully carried out a new technique - percutaneous choledochoscopic biliary exploration. The surgery was performed by Director Li of the Interventional Department, who used EVT Single- use Digital Flexible Cholangioscope.

The patient in this operation was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma complicated by obstructive jaundice. An 8.5F drainage tube had been implanted in the patient's body previously, resulting in excellent conditions of the stoma and a well-matured sinus tract. Based on this, the surgical team did not choose to place a sheath; instead, they adopted the method of direct entry with a bare scope. The choledochoscope was advanced along a guidewire to the distal end of the obstruction, and then slowly withdrawn to carefully observe the bile duct strictures and lesions.

Postoperative feedback showed that both the patient and the clinical team highly recognized this technique, with its core advantages focusing on three aspects:

  1. Visualized operation: Under the premise of minimal invasiveness, it enables intuitive observation of lesions and strictures, solving the problem of limited visual field in traditional methods;
  2. Functional synergy: It can be used in conjunction with a fine biopsy forceps to directly obtain pathological samples, completing exploration and diagnosis simultaneously, which significantly improves the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment and avoids secondary operations;
  3. Safety and practicality: The operation reduces radiation exposure throughout the whole process, lowering the radiation risk for medical staff and patients. Moreover, the EVT Single- use Digital Flexible Cholangioscope provides high-definition imaging, which offers reliable support for accurate judgment of lesions and further ensures the surgical effect.
