The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University has successfully completed the first clinical application of a domestic mental ureteral stent system for the treatment of recurrent ureteral stricture following ureteral reconstruction.

Procedure Overview

The procedure was performed by Professor Yongda Liu. The patient was a male with recurrent ureteral stricture following ureteral reconstruction. After endoscopic incision of the stricture through ureteroscopy, a domestic mental ureteral stent system was successfully placed.

Post-procedure evaluation showed that the stent was positioned appropriately, with restoration of ureteral patency.

Key Features of the Ureteral Stent System

The mental ureteral stent system incorporates a nitinol support structure with self-expanding properties, providing effective support at the site of ureteral stricture and facilitating urinary drainage.[1,3,4]

• Close wall apposition: The specialized mesh structure is designed to closely conform to the ureteral wall, helping maintain stent position and reduce the risk of migration. The stent's covering layer is designed to reduce encrustation and the accumulation of urinary sediment on the stent surface, while helping prevent tissue ingrowth.[1,2]
• Designed for placement and removal: The stent is constructed from tightly woven nitinol wires in a spiral configuration, facilitating stent deployment during implantation and removal after the spiral structure is released.[1,2]

This successful clinical application represents a further step in the development and clinical use of domestic ureteral stent technology for the management of complex ureteral strictures.
